VTK incompatible to Python 3.8
VTK currently cannot be installed via Pip on Python 3.8. This makes configuring DORiE fail as required Python packages cannot be installed.
VTK 8.2.1 does not support Python 3.8. VTK 9.0 does, but it has not been released yet. Users of more recent Linux distributions like Ubuntu 20.04, where Python 3.8 is the default version, have to downgrade to Python 3.7.
Steps to reproduce
Use Ubuntu 20.04.
Follow the installation instructions in the
CMake produces an error when installing Python packages into the virtual environment:
ERROR: No matching distribution found for vtk (from dorie==0.1)
Use the deadsnakes PPA to have any version of Python available on your system.
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:deadsnakes/ppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt install python3.7
When building DORiE, set the Python3.7 executable explicitly by adding the following variable to the
Homebrew has not upgraded to Python3.8 yet, it seems. Everything should still work.
